Maya Brooks
A former carrier underwriter who got tired of watching loyal customers subsidize new ones, Maya co-founded Lanewise to put the rating spread in the driver’s favor.
Background.
Maya Brooks spent nine years pricing auto risk inside a national carrier — first as a personal-lines underwriter, then building the renewal models that decide whose premium creeps up and whose doesn’t. She left with an uncomfortable conclusion: the spread between carriers for the same driver is enormous, and the industry’s business model depends on you never seeing it.
She co-founded Lanewise in 2016 to show the spread. Maya built the first version of the rating engine herself in a spreadsheet, quoting friends across six carriers by hand. Today the panel is fourteen carriers and the engine re-rates every client’s renewal automatically — but every policy still gets a licensed advisor’s eyes before it binds.
Maya holds property & casualty licenses in 28 states and speaks regularly on distribution and rating transparency at industry events, including InsureTech Connect.
